Child refusing medication
Is there a way to make children actually swallow medicine they don't like?
- 2 adults present - Put the medicine into a squirtable "dropper" / syringe. Lay the child down on their back, securing their hands and with their head turned and held firmly all the way to one side. The medicine giver then puts a finger into the mouth, scrupulously avoiding the gnashing teeth, holds the cheek out away from the aforesaid teeth, introduces the dropper / syringe end into the space thus created between cheek and teeth, and back to the area of the rear molars. The medication is then gradually introduced into the back of the teeth/cheek area, where it will seep past the teeth and into the throat where it will be swallowed without choking taking place. All of this is done very calmly, and follows a brief description, with each dose, of exactly what is going to be done and why.
- 1 adult only present - Same idea. Wrap them tightly in a sheet so they can't move arms or legs; like the newborns are wrapped in the hospital nursery.
